"For those of you out there, give a listen to these song snippets. I'm trying to put together a complete soundtrack to the film "Mask" and these are the mystery tunes from the film that are not credited. Hopefully some of you out there can ID them or know some people who can (especially those in the film industry or anyone that worked on the movie). Once these are figured out, I will share the soundtrack with Michael for the blog. Thanks for your help."

hey zidders,
awesome. i'll be sure to pass the info over to my pal Phaota.
thanks bro, your help is much appreciated :).
take care.
Michael and Zidders, I have all of those songs. These posted are mystery tunes not reported on any website or in the DVDs credits. The Bruce Springsteen songs are only on the Director's Cut DVD, all previous copies are Bob Seger.
hey zidders,
hope you read this soon but yeah phaota says he has all those songs so there's no need to look into those songs seeing if they're the mystery songs. but if you dig up any more info on more songs not listed already please let us know. thanks pal.
take care.
Hey Ripper. I love Your Blog!!!
I am not sure if you are done with the "mask" ost. I didn't see mention of one Bob Seger song that was in the original release of the film. I understand that it was a replacement due to trouble with the springsteen royalties, but if you are planning on making one of your cool extended soundtracks, it would be great to hear it song included. off the top of my head I think it was "roll me away". there may have been more, but it has been at least 15 years since I have seen that movie.
hey monster,
thanks pal. yeah we still haven't finished it yet. my friend Phaota who is working on this custom ost says he has that song. thanks for the tip tho pal. much appreciated :).
take care.
That REALY MORNING SHAKEDOWN/POLICE AT THE DOOR number is John Fogerty singing. That much I know.
hey fotog,
thanks bro for the tip. i will pass this info to Phaota.
thanks again pal. take care.
"When I Get Enough..." could be a song called "Cajun Born." Johnny Cash is the only one I know who covered it. That particular tune was written by Joel Sonier & Kermit Goell. Johnny released it on his album 'Gone Girl' back in '78. Unfortunately, I don't have that album so I won't be able to tell if the same track. Maybe others out there?
hey berjo,
thanks for the info pal. i passed this info to Phaota.
take care.
Nope, just listened to "Cajun Born" on Rhapsody and it doesn't match in either the lyrics nor the speed. Cash's song is slow paced. The movie clip is more of a cajun stomp tune.
Sorry, just a suggestion and trying to help.
I'm pretty sure you already know this but just in case... many times a director/producer will choose a close friend (or even themselves) to search outside tracks (non-score) that in some cases are rare or local releases. That could be the case here.
Again, just trying to help. :)
hey berjo,
don't worry no worries berjo :). i'm sure phaota didn't mean it the way you thought it meant. me and phaota both appreciate the help greatly. whatever help my readers like you can provide is totally cool in my book. but you might be onto something regarding the director/producer.
thanks again for the input pal.
take care.
Not sure how you read my comment as being irritated at your suggestion, but that wasn't the intent. I totally appreciate any and all clues to hopefully figuring these songs out. Thanks for trying to help out.
Sorry again folks. I didn't mean to imply it was an irrational response. Nope, I just didn't want you to think I'm dumb and have no idea what I'm talkin' about. lol
But just in case for any misunderstanding - I didn't mean my first post that it was a 'Johnny Cash' tune but thought it might be the same track that he covered.
Anyway, I'd like to say you run a great blog and love how you're into 'complete' soundtracks. I am in most definite agreement - I would say the very first time I was deeply disappointed was for the "Crossroads" sndtk (the one with the karate kid and Steve Vai). How could they of released a soundtrack without that guitar duel? :D
Thank you again.
hey berjo.
it's all good berjo. we didn't think that about you so no worries.
thanks for the compliments on my blog. i try to make it the best i can. and i try to post only the most complete versions of the soundtracks i pick. i've never seen that crossroads movie but i think i've seen a bit of it when i was a kid. if i find someone with the complete soundtrack i'll be sure to post it.
take care pal.
That's one I didn't collect myself since it is mainly all score performed by Steve Vai and Ry Cooder, with a few classic tunes and two made for the movie sung by Amy Madigan, which were covers of older songs anyway.
Hey, I'm almost positive that track one "Louisiana Blues" is by Cajun musician Jo-El Sonnier, who actually ACTS in the movie Mask.
Are y'all still playing name-that-tune on this entry?
hey M,
yup we're still trying to figure out the names of the songs and artists for these clips. if you happen to know any info for the others let us know. thanks for helping us out with that info you provide here. i'll tell phaota about the info you gave us.
take care.
Well, thanks to M, I now have a perfect copy of "Louisiana Blues" by Jo-El Sonnier. Sure glad you knew about him, M. Luckily, Rhapsody had a collection album called "The L.A. Sessions", which obviously contains songs he did with various friends for different projects. In this case, the missing song from "Mask" was on it. Thinking back to what Berjo said about the "Cajun Born" song, it was also on this album. While listening, the snippet posted here on the blog, I was thrilled to find that it matched the full song dead on. So two mystery tracks have now been found for the soundtrack. If anyone can just direct me to the mystery John Fogerty rock song and the other one, I'll have this project pretty much complete.
Is something wrong with the audio clips? I wanted to give the other tracks a listen too see if I could help out on them.
hey m
sorry about that. for some reason the player for those clips was transparent for a while and i didn't know why. so tonight i checked the html on the post and turns out the player's code was set to transparent. i have no idea how it got that way. but now they're solid white. so let me know if you still have trouble with the player and i'll have to get it on a different file host. just 3 more tracks till we have this complete :D
take care.
