NEW POLL! - Please Vote - Read On....

As many of my readers know I've been using Rapidshare as my main file host server for years. Due to recent lame policy changes on Rapidshare and overwhelming demand from readers I have decided to give up on Rapidshare and start using a file host server that's more user friendly and more convenient for my readers. However, there are so many out there to choose from. I have asked some of my close friends what they thought and I have narrowed my top 2 choices down to Megaupload and Filesonic. But like all servers those two have their own share of problems. Megaupload seems to not be user friendly with international users. Filesonic isn't the easiest server to know how to use for people new to file host servers it seems. Can you help me decide which server I should use instead of Rapidshare?

If you're reading this via a RSS feed or from the mailing list, head on over to the blog where you'll find the poll widget at top and kindly vote.

If anyone has any suggested file hosts they'd like for me to consider that's not on the poll, let me know in the comments section of this post. Thanks!

Poll closes June 2nd at midnight. So hurry and get your vote in. :)

I don't know anything about file sharing from the uploading end, and I don't download a ton - but I am always psyched when downloads are on Mediafire cause it's really quick and easy and they don't have a daily limit. I guess there's probably a reason you didn't mention it though.

Well, as I've noted before, I use MegaUpload mainly now for sharing stuff. I still subscribe to Rapidshare since I have a lot of files on it that get regular download use, so I can't just stop using the storage site. But, I do not upload to them anymore. I also subscribe to FileSonic and Fileserve, though I mainly use them for downloading items. There is an exception with FileSonic, since I recently had trouble with both RS and MU with several of my audio commentaries that I shared on Paradox and KatzForum. Even though I renamed them, neither site would allow me to reup the files to their server. Very weird. So I had to store them on FileSonic instead. Never have I had any problems with any of the hundreds of other commentaries, just these few. MU's upload manager works perfectly, but I do agree that FileSonic's upload ability is crappy since you have to do it from their site, which makes the process slow.

hey carol

mediafire is on the poll :). don't worry haven't forgotten about that one. but i do have to say that i have had a bad experience with it in the past with uploading to it directly. my files kept dying and fast. but after this poll is over i will continue to support mediafire through sharemyfiles server.

take care.

hey phaota

thanks for your insight my friend. and had no idea about the filesonic problem. thanks for the tip. i do hope you solve your problem you've been having with those files. i know you have a big collection of commentaries and enjoy sharing them with fans on those forums.

thanks again. take care.

Just to throw my two cents in here, I have used all the sites you have mentioned (for uploading and downloading) and they ALL have their problems because as we know technology can be a pain in the ass. But for my choice I use filesonic. Megaupload has given me problems uploading my files and when downloading at times some MU files take forever to download. What I like downloading from FS is that when you click on the link, the download box just appears instead of having to go to the site and click on this and that. (I know this is only when you have an account but it is convienent. Mediafire is ok but just going to that site to download has cause trouble before with pop ups!

You know me, I do prefer Megaupload. I hate having restrictions and the damned waiting 15, 30, 45 minutes for things to move .. maybe I'm biased hehe but MU gets my vote

Megaupload is my vote!

Megaupload all the way. Been using it for years. Wouldn't have it any other way! :)

Mediafire is my top choice, they're straight to the point and very user friendly. MediaUpload comes in second, never had a problem with them but they have some limitations for free users. Fileserve is also a pretty good alternative which many seem to be using. I wouldn't go with FileSonic, they have too many limitations and are very slow.

I would go with either Megaupload or Mediafire, whichever works best for you. Megaupload has always been good to me. Sure the uploading takes quite a while but who I am to complain?

It's a toss between MF and MU for me...I had to say you guys are amazing for the good things your sharing here. I'm a regular follower of this blog and a big fan of course. Thanks for all the rare/bootleg soundtracks... buggyjomz

I've lived in a number of different countries and am not living in the U.S. right now (if that's what you mean by international readers) and I've never had a problem with Megaupload or Mediafire. Also if you have skipscreen installed on your browser then Megaupload is not annoying. The only thing that is the deal breaker for me is that mediafire allows simultaneous downloads while megaupload does not. This severely limits downloads and is frustrating and stupid. anyway happy for the switch. anything is better than rapidshare.

hello everyone

thank you all for your advice on the file host server choices. the poll is now over and megaupload has won with the most votes. i am going to proceed to order a membership on megaupload and you can expect the first post with megaupload as the main server choice either today or later this weekend. i will continue to use multiupload and spreadmyfiles as other choices to download from. i have two accounts on Rapidshare and one of them the one i've been using the past year is about to expire. so if the links start dying all the sudden on the old posts with Rapidshare please give me some time to reup them on megaupload. i'm already overwhelmed thinking about that since i've used RS for so long on here but it will take time and it will work out in the end hopefully. thanks again everyone. your advice is greatly appreciated :)

take care.

I think what I don't like about Rapidshare is I have to wait between multiple uploads. Yeah, I use the free version. However, I like that Megaupload allows you to download immediately after the first download, but if I'm not mistaken you're limited to DL megabyte-wise. I really love MediaFire because it's one, really fast. Two, you can download multiples simultaneously. But I don't know if it's accessible overseas.
