As slasher films go, “The House On Sorority Row” from 1982 (not 1983 as shown on IMDb) is your usual fare. Psychotic killer takes out a group of newly graduated girls, one by one, during and after a big party at the house they’ve stayed at during the four years of school. What sets off the killer? A mean prank gone bad by the lead girl, with the help of most of the others, played on the nasty head mistress of the house, which accidentally causes her death. The movie plays out in a similar fashion to that of “A Nightmare On Elm Street”, except with an all-girl cast and even ends with a lone heroine winning out against the bad guy. What sets the film apart from all the other slasher movies is the excellent acting, superb cinematography, and most importantly, the music. Score wise, Richard H. Band created wonderful, fully orchestral music for the flick. It definitely stands out as the best horror/drama movie score, in my opinion. Most scores for films like this are very annoying and don’t call for repeated listening. This one does and is very beautiful when needed, as well as eerie and atmospheric for those scenes calling for it, but always melodic and enjoyable. Other than Band’s score, you also have five vocal power pop tunes by “4 Out Of 5 Doctors”, which were a great group back in the day, and still are if you love 80s music. Their first two albums are available together in a re-mastered edition from the group’s website. Since an actual extended soundtrack concerning all of the score and vocal songs together has never been released, Phaota decided to put one together and has shared it with fans here on Inferno. As with all of his releases, the songs are in play order as heard in the movie.

I had to jump in on this. I have a GREAT 4 Out Of 5 Doctors story. (Can there be any other kind?)
So, many years ago, I worked with the company that had the distribution rights to HOSR. They had a zillion horror films in their library. At that time, pre-YouTube, they were trying to figure out some other ways to use their content online.
We pitched them the idea of re-cutting and re-purposing their films. First up? HOSR. We turned it into a Behind The Music all about 4 Out Of 5 Doctors. It was just okay - not great - and the company never ended up doing anything with it.
Cut to a few years later - somehow I find an email address of the lead singer of the band. Email him, tell him the whole story and send him a copy.
One week later he sent me digitized version of BOTH 4 Out Of 5 Doctors LPs - complete with their cover art.
SOOO cool. I still listen to them. The Band score is also some great horror music. The whole movie is totally underrated and the remake, well.
I suppose I'm a little broken up about that as I tried for years to get the rights.
interesting story pj. thanks for sharing it :)
BTW - the CW show Ringer is using the theme song from the movie in their promos. It's been redone. It sounds cool.
sounds cool
